Cape Cod Potato Chips is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
The brand was founded in 1980 after two brothers, Steve and Jude Bernard, wanted to create a healthier snack made with little processing.
Steve Bernard’s wife, Lynn, owned Ardklin Natural Foods in Harwich, where he began selling his chips. They quickly became a hit, and over the past four decades, the company has grown to become a national brand, producing 1.1 million bags of potato chips a year at the Hyannis Factory and sold in all 50 states.
In recent years, it’s not uncommon for 250,000 people to stop in annually for self-guided tours, which Cape Cod Chips recently revamped with an expanded space and larger windows that allow visitors to watch the manufacturing process.
“As a brand that has remained on the Cape since its inception, Cape Cod Potato Chips has been a mainstay in the community for the past 40 years,” the company said.
To celebrate the big milestone, the company donated $40,000 to the Cape & Islands United Way (CIUW) organization’s Food Security efforts.
It’s also launching the brand’s first ever Cape Cod Potato Chips online merchandise store, so you can show your support for the company.
The store will feature a special limited edition Capsule Collection, “and exclusive brand merch, specially designed for chip-lovers everywhere.”
The store will get you ready for the beach by selling t-shirts, a pullover, beach tote and beach towel.
