Edmore Potato Festival to return for the fall 2021 season - The Morning Sun

The Edmore Potato Festival has a variety of events and activities for community members to enjoy.

The festival is a hometown event that celebrates the roots of Edmore. It’s expected to take place over the weekend, from Sept. 17 to Sept. 19.

On Friday, Sept. 17, the scheduled events follows as:

  • The Farmer’s Market at the Edmore Marketplace from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • An Ice Cream Truck at Huntington Bank from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • A Potato Drive-Thru meal at Faith United Methodist Church from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • A Community Tailgate Party at Curtis Park from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event is sponsored by Edmore Family Foods
  • A Mustang Varsity Football Game at Montabella Community Stadium at 7 p.m. Fireworks will follow the game.

For Saturday, Sept. 18, the events are listed as:

  • A Car Show from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is sponsored by Van’s Auto.
  • From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Potato Car Races (where participants and make and race a potato car), Potato Peeling and Eating Contests, and Potato Chip Tasting/Voting for Edmore’s Favorite will be going on. The Potato Peeling and Eating Contests are sponsored by Great Lakes Medical Associates.
  • Couch Potato Races will be going on from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Participants can compete to how good of a “couch potato” they really are. Individual and family rounds are available.
  • From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will Pine Forest Historical Museum tours and a Tik Tok Potatoes at The Red Lantern going on. People can dress up their potatoes and create a Tik Tok video for the Tik Tok Potatoes event.
  • A Potato Drive-Thru meal at Faith United Methodist Church from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The beer tent will be open from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. The tent is sponsored by New Standard. People must be 21 to enter and there is $3 cover charge after 8 p.m.
  • John Dudley Magic Shows will be occurring at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The show is sponsored by Edmore Family Dentistry.
  • Parade Lineup will begin at 1 p.m. at 2nd Street by the Church of God. The Parade will start at 2 p.m. Preregistration is not required and they will be judging for the best potato themed entry. Contact Nicole Hadley at 989-304-6267 for more information.
  • From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. several events will be going on, including: The Johnny McCarthy Memorial Tractor Show (Sponsored by Hutson), Tractor Games (sponsored by Farm Services-Lakeview), a Potato Chopped Challenge for local restaurant cooks to compete in, and a Farm Strong Olympics that test farmer skills in competitions for all ages.
  • A Kids Pedal Tractor Pulls will occur at 4 p.m. Children ages 3 to 10 can participate.
  • As Awards Ceremony and Raffle Drawing will occur at 5:30 p.m.
  • The Community Mashed Potato Dinner (sponsored by Rasmussen Law) will be going on from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A scavenger hunt and yard sales will be going on all day on Friday and Saturday. Also, all day on Saturday, bounce houses (with $2 all all day wristbands will be available the day of), Inflatable Water Balls (with a $5 fee) and Petting Zoo will be going. Sales and special at many downtown businesses will also be going on all day for Saturday.

On Sunday, Sept. 19, events for the day follow as:

  • Amvet Breakfast at VFW Hall from 8 a.m. to noon
  • A kickball tournament at 5th Street Fields from 1 p.m. Registration information can be found on the Edmore Potato Festival Facebook page.
  • Pine Forest Historical Museum Tours will be going on from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Music in the Park with Kenny & the JJ’s and an Ice Cream Social will be taking place at 6:30 p.m. at Curtis Park. The event is sponsored by Edmore Art Council and Dave’s Dairy Delight.
