GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- The Green Bay Packers and county officials are helping fill local food pantries.
They launched the Brown County Potato Project on Thursday and gave out free seed potatoes to gardeners who pledged to donate half of the potatoes they harvest to local food pantries.
An educator from nearby was excited to be picking up the seeds for his students to grow.
"It is nice to have students helping students and families within our own community. That they can grow and learn and then that product can be consumed by families that our food pantry services,” said Walter Taylor, Agricultural Educator for the Oconto Falls School District.
Organizers hope to plant over a thousand potatoes through this project.
