This is too funny!
As people across the country adjust to working from home to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, there’s bound to be some hiccups. Many people are relying on video conferencing apps like Zoom and Microsoft Teams to connect with their coworkers virtually, and some don’t quite yet have the hang of the technology.
Lizet Ocampo is the political director at People For the American Way, and while she’s working remotely, she has been participating in a virtual happy hour with community leaders. She downloaded some silly filters to lighten the mood, which was perfect for the social event.
However, when her Monday morning meeting rolled around, she forgot all about the filters. When she began a video call with staff, she was horrified to see that she had a filter on that made her look like a potato.
Even worse, she could not figure out how to turn it off, forcing her to conduct the rest of the call as a root vegetable. Needless to say, her colleagues got a kick out of it, and one took to Twitter to share a screenshot:
my boss turned herself into a potato on our Microsoft teams meeting and can’t figure out how to turn the setting off, so she was just stuck like this the entire meeting pic.twitter.com/uHLgJUOsXk

“My boss turned herself into a potato on our Microsoft teams meeting and can’t figure out how to turn the setting off, so she was just stuck like this the entire meeting,” she wrote.
Too funny! People loved the hilarious glitch, and the tweet soon went viral, racking up more than 224,000 re-tweets. People are getting a kick out of the mistake and others are posting their own versions of Potato Boss. There’s even a new social media account on Twitter at @IYamPotatoBoss and Instagram at @iyampotatoboss (the account seems unrelated to the original post).
Thankfully, Ocampo had a sense of humor about the situation as well, and tweeted to let everyone know that she was glad her blunder could spread some silly cheer during these difficult times:
I yam potato boss. You should see me in a crown, right @billieeilish? I yam glad this is making folks laugh at this time. Please stay planted at home and safe! For more needed laughs, follow my favorite comedian @cristela9 . Potate out. #HASHtag #PotatoBoss https://t.co/OxpidZc921

“I yam potato boss,” she joked in the tweet. “You should see me in a crown, right @billieeilish? I yam glad this is making folks laugh at this time. Please stay planted at home and safe!”
Nice puns!
To give people more opportunities for comic relief, she suggested they follow her favorite comedian on Twitter, Cristela Alonzo.
Have you had any funny technological mishaps while working remotely?
