How to Make a Baked Potato

Honestly, there are a few options when it comes to making the perfect baked potato. Let’s start with the variety of methods. You can literally bake it in the oven, utilize your Crock Pot or Instant Pot, throw them on the grill, and in a time crunch, use the handy potato setting on your microwave. Our absolute favorite way to bake a potato is the oven method—especially if you like eating the crispy potato skin. Scrub and dry the outside of your potatoes, then lay each one in a piece of aluminum foil, brush with oil and season with salt. Wrap the potatoes individually and cut a small hole in the top to allow the steam to escape. Place on a baking sheet and cook for 1-1.5 hours in a 400 degree oven, until a sharp knife inserts easily. Just remember the cooking time will depend on the size of your potatoes. Actually, I use this same method when we “bake” potatoes on the outdoor grill as well, and they have an even crispier skin—which we love!
