Officials investigate fire at Grand Forks potato plant - Grand Forks Herald

GRAND FORKS — Fire investigators were still at a north Grand Forks potato processing plant Wednesday night, Jan. 29, as they tried to determine what sparked a blaze at the facility earlier in the day.

About 3:45 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to a report of a fire at a J.R. Simplot Company factory, 3630 Gateway Drive, according to a news release from the Grand Forks Fire Department.

Five engines, a ladder truck and 19 firefighters responded to the fire, which was found smoldering inside a freezer wall next to a packaging area, the release said.

After removing coverings from the wall, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, which did not spread beyond where it was found.

Fire officials reported no injuries Wednesday night. They did not yet have an estimate for the cost of damage to the factory, though said the fire did not stop operations.
